DYSTOPIAN SEA

Her first encounter with death was on a near drowning incident as a toddler,
she saw an upside down, enormous ferry drifting towards her.
She survived, but the dark, sometimes imaginary, visions as a child stayed.
To befriend our biggest enemy, we must know its deepest depth
to be able to swim up again.

The sea is a monster hiding underneath your bed when you are asleep,
waiting to cast it shadows over your bright walls,
it’s the villain you can never defeat.
It’s a creature hungry for new victims, we try to control it;
ships trying to break the waves,
humans, convincing themselves it is their summer playground,
but eventually we will all be swallowed by its rough bite.

the spiral down down down
you heard it shriek when touching the bottom
disguised by bubbles, its eternal void
wave breaker, ice shaker, life taker.

Exhibited outdoors in Kraków, Poland, summer of 2021.
